It would be interesting to me to hear from several veteran designers on whether the enormous improvement in software tools at their disposal has affected picture books. There are certain kinds of layouts you just don't see any more in high end picture books, and I don't think it's simply because they're particularly out of fashion. I love contempora...thanks for this thoughtful post. I love contemporary picture books for their combined dependence on both text and pictures to carry the story.
