I love When the Wolves Returned & just re-read it last week! I would also suggest a couple of titles by Sneed Collard which I loved. I recently read Hopping Ahead of Climate Change (on snowshoe hares) as well as Fire Birds (on natural fires and the plants/creatures that thrive in the aftermath).
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't exactly fit the topic, Melissa, but it was another fascinating read: Chernobyl's Wild Kingdom by Rebecca L. Johnson. It shows how wildlife has adapted to radiation, with some species flourishing while others display abnormalities.
All the titles you suggest would be great for grades 5 and up, but are a bit too sophisticated for grade 3.
